Space a problem then consider round. They are a real space saver! No sharp corners, easier to slip in and out, and more room around the perimeter. Twenty six inches is good but thirty inches is better. Remember the size of your room will determine the size of the table you can have.

For years the standard height for a table is thirty inches. Tables that are shorter and taller have become very popular recently. The shorter tables are harder to get your legs under but they look stunning. Taller tables are easy to sit at but they do place you higher than the room décor itself. Extension tables are handy because under normal situations you can leave it at the standard size seating four and leaving your room with lots of open space but when the need arrives you can quickly make your table large enough to serve the hole gang in a pleasant and comfortable environment.
